Reflections

What is it about Reflections, that slightly scare us? We look in the mirror. It shows us exactly as we are. No soft lighting, no post production editing, no special lenses or filters...just us! How do you feel when you look in the mirror? What do you see? Who do you see? Most of the bathrooms I've been in have lighting that could not be described as mood lighting! The lighting is usually harsh and that makes, what we see, even worse. I suspect most woman (and probably a lot of man) are very dissatisfied at what they see when they turn on the light and look at themselves in the mirror each morning. Is there anything we can do? Yes, there is. It's quite simple, really. Either get rid of all of the mirrors around you - or, just don't look! That sounds easy! However, there is something irresistible about a mirror. I'm sure most of us have seen (or done it ourselves) a person walking past a shop window, a shiny car or billboard, giving oneself a sideways glance at one's reflection, to see how one looks. When I have done this (yes, I admit it), I try to hide my blatant narcissism, and pretend I am looking at the shop display, the fine print on the billboard or a feigned interest in the model of the car!. (Who am I really fooling?). I mostly look into a shop window when I am parking (I don't really trust my vehicle's reversing camera!) and am quite pleased that I have parked my vehicle, actually facing the right way!! All joking aside, the mirrors we all look at never tell the whole truth. They just reflect the mask we choose to wear that day. It's only the people closest to us who really know us, when the mask has been taken off. There is someone who knows the best and worst about us, but deeply loves us anyhow. He is not fooled by the masks we wear. He wants to transform us to be like Him, and he empowers us, through His Spirit, and with our cooperation and belief in His power, to do this. As we look to Him...our magnificent, majestic and beautiful Creator, we grow to be more like Him.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?
